The space given to us was an old home with a location to LIVE for! (Note how I don’t say die for).
When you design for close friends, the implicit trust they place in you makes you that much more responsible to deliver something beyond everyone’s expectations! The client literally gave us No brief! Of course, the fact that we’ve known each other for 20 years helped us to judge what they wanted and elevate it.
This home is more a lifestyle than just a house! Spread over almost an acre of land with a built-up area of about 7000 square feet, it houses 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms with, 4 living areas, A 12-seater dining area and 2 kitchens.
As you walk in through the gates, we wanted the ocean to be hidden and be presented as a surprise only once you enter the main door! Hence the inconspicuous wooden screens amidst the landscape and the blocked-out facade.
Once you open the door, you walk into the double height Living area that overlooks the sprawling pool deck, the infinity pool and the ocean… nothing in between!
A lot of small and cozy entertainment areas tuck away and cater to everyone who inhabits the home and their friends, suiting their needs at different times of the day and apt for those who want to kick back and read, chill with friends or ever get down and party!
The colors of the sand brought about our color
scheme and we stayed true to it from stone to fabric!
We layered texture over texture in different hues & finishes all the while keeping in mind comfort, touch & feel. The materials were kept conducive to the surroundings & the tropical climates so wood, fabric & cane bounce off the sandstone floor and walls creating this house was always about creating a vibe… never about the oohs and aah’s of designing an exotic home!
Every space flows into each other and every piece is there because it means something and adds to the mood of this being the epitome of a holiday home!
